Happy Birthday… To Us!

As I write I’m enjoying a metaphorical muffin in celebration of Plastic Free Home’s first birthday.

Listening to the likes of Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg back in 2018 triggered my ‘wake up moment’.

As a father, with a young family, I decided that I wanted to do a little more to, in some small way, help make a difference. We had been thinking about things at home and trying to do our bit for some time so I thought, why not share that enthusiasm, ideas and the latest news with people to encourage them to make simple and affordable everyday changes.

Since its online launch, Plastic Free Home has attracted nearly 26,000 active followers, and received more than 3 million reads, comments, likes and shares. I’ve somehow found the time to produce more than 200 articles, including regular columns in three publications, reaching upwards of half a million homes.

I’ve also appeared regularly on BBC Radio and been invited to speak at events by my local council, businesses, local schools and community groups.

Last Christmas I said that I would be delighted if we could attract 100 followers locally, and our aim was to inspire each to make a single change. It’s safe to say that we exceeded that target(!) and amazingly we now have followers in over 30 countries. I’d like to thank everyone who has engaged with Plastic Free Home in the past year, be it here or online, for taking the time to think that bit harder. Keep going…
