Item name: Washing up liquid and hand wash
Made by: Splosh
Bought from: Splosh
Description: Launched in 2012 and based in Wales, Splosh lives by the ethos that “refilling is better than recycling” You can buy their bottles for a range of household products, ranging from laundry detergent to shower gel.
After switching to Splosh, you don’t have to buy a plastic bottle ever again (cutting your plastic use by around 90%), with refillable pouches instead delivered directly to your door containing the concentrates to mix at home in your original bottle. They arrive in lightweight cardboard boxes which are easily stored. Once you have got through eight pouches, you can even send them back to Splosh for free to be recycled, creating a closed loop.
For added peace of mind, no product is tested on animals and all ingredients are vegan friendly. Splosh’s products are made from predominantly plant derived ingredients unless a “viable natural alternative” is not deemed available. Some do however contain SLES derived from palm oil, but an RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified supplier is used.
Washing up liquid comes in at £1.75, when you include the original bottle. Refills alone are priced at £4.95 for three sachets. Hand wash is £1.75, when you include the bottle, or £6.95 for six sachets. Online you can track how many plastic bottles you save using the ‘Splosh-ometer’ and for further savings, there is a subscription option giving you 10% off.
We found the bottles to be user friendly with a clear ‘fill to’ line when adding lukewarm water to the concentrate supplied. Give it a good shake and you are ready to go.
We have two young children and the hand wash has been kind on their hands and smells nice too. The washing up liquid has worked as well as any supermarket brand and having the pouches readily available has meant that we have never run low. You don’t even need to have one of Splosh’s bottles as the refills give you clear instructions on the back, showing the ratios to use in any size or brand of bottle. Just fully rinse any used bottles first. Splosh’s products are simple to use and well thought out – a big thumbs up from us.
