Description:
Based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, The Salty Herb is a small skincare business, founded in 2019, selling products including bath bombs, bath salts and body oils.
Their simple but effective mission is: “to encourage people in a fast paced world to slow down and take some time to relax.”
You can buy Salty Herb’s products from a growing number of online eco retailers or buy directly via their website.
We tried a lovely bath bomb set, priced at £14. Inside the minimal and sustainable packaging were three ‘Juicy Lucy’, ‘Lemon Pie’ and ‘Freshly Squeezed’ bath bombs. A similar Christmas set (also £14) is currently available, featuring “luxury Christmas scents ‘Winter Wonderland’, ‘Naughty & Spice’, & ‘The Wise Man’.”
As touched on, it was the excellent packaging that caught our eye first. Home compostable and biodegradable wrapping and “packaging peanuts”.
The products are eye-catching too and smell great. They also last well if dried and stored correctly in between use.
Shipping is free if you spend over £25.
In short, a fantastic (and eco friendlier) alternative to the likes of Lush (yawn) and other big brands, whether for you or to give as a gift.
Pros:
+ Vegan and Cruelty Free
+ No SLS, Palm Oil, parabens or preservatives
+ Handmade in the UK from 100% natural ingredients
+ Biodegradable
+ The bath bombs look and smell fantastic.
+ Sensibly and sustainably packaged – plastic free
+ At £14 for a set of three bath bombs, not the cheapest option you will come across but far from the most expensive. On a par with the likes of Lush and a far more distinctive option.
+ Long lasting if dried and stored correctly
+ A lovely gift option – a nice change from more familiar, bigger brands.
Cons:
– As mentioned, the price point may deter some, particularly those newly switching from less sustainable products. But, comparatively, they are good value and a more interesting choice.
– The more “grown up” and less in your face colours and designs may not float everyone’s bath, but we really like them. You can’t beat handmade products.
